Welcome to the website of Prince of Peace Parish, Lewiston, Maine. We are a Roman Catholic community with roots that go back to 1857. Since that time, we have given witness of our faith in Jesus Christ by our worship, the formation of young people and adults, and our service to the community. I hope this site will help you get to know us better and, in so doing, discover something new about the Good News Jesus shares with the world.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to learn more about how we can help you on your journey of faith. We intend to be a school of prayer for the people of our times. We have many opportunities to help you grow in your spiritual life. Please join us on the Lord’s Day, Sunday or Saturday evening, to give thanks to God for the blessings you have received. Bishop Malone’s pastoral letter is a document that examines and explains the Church’s teaching on marriage as it is honored between one man and one woman, living in openness to new life, and the importance of marriage in society.
It responds to the contemporary challenge of the proposal to redefine marriage but does so in the context of an expansive vision of marriage’s timeless beauty and essential place in society. In sum, Bishop Malone’s letter serves as a timely “mini catechesis” (teaching) on marriage and a firm but gentle reminder of what society stands to lose if marriage is redefined in the law.

May 17, 2012The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven. Ascention Thursday is May 17th and is a Holy Day of Obligation.
